A year of making

Alpaca the Alpaca

I believe I have broadened my horizons more this year than in any previous year. It's usually when you don't hear (or see - social media) from someone that you wonder what they have been doing. For me, my quietness signals that I’ve been working on something that is important to me. 

Whenever I want to create something, my first thought is, can I sew it? You will be surprised how many household problems can be addressed by sewing. It's kind of my superpower. Right now, I’m already thinking of drawstring bags instead of lucky packets for my son's birthday. A lucky packet and a gift in one? Win-Win.

I am getting better and better at visualizing an idea and turning it into an actual product. 

Lately, my almost three-year-old son has been inspiring me to create more and more. He knows where my fabric stash is, and he will just walk to the stash and tell me,

“This is for a doggy”. So then I draft a pattern, test it, and create. Of course - he is my biggest critic, and I love that. If he loves a soft toy I made, I know I can list it on my online shop. The latest creation inspired by him is Alpaca the Alpaca (his name choice!). And yes - he instantly knew it was an alpaca!

If the past two years have taught me anything, it's that you should do what you can, when you can, to the best of your abilities, because life can change in a flash. 

I feel immense gratitude to God for the gift of creativity and for being able to use my hands to create. I feel that in this way, I can praise God for this gift.

So if ever you receive a handmade gift from me, know it comes from my heart, and I thought of you whilst making it.
