The Lifted Lorax

I have been living my best life this week. At my boy’s pre-school, we have been celebrating language week. Day 1, the children had to dress up as their favorite book character, day two, a rhyme or song character, day three - bring something from your favorite story to school.
Oh yes, I have something for that!
When my son was turning two, all we watched was The Lorax. We must have watched the movie 200 times. He knows the words and acts out the actions. I also know the words. I was so excited to make him something special, just for him, made with love.
I worked on a pattern, bought all the special fabric, and got to work on a special Lorax soft toy. At this time, he was still in a half-day
school, so every minute counted.
The day of his birthday, I was so excited to see his face when he got his very own Lorax soft toy. Only to be met with an expressionless face and excitement for car toys. He literally pulled the Lorax toy out of the gift bag and put (threw) it straight on the floor (where it remained). I still remember my husband looking at me with an “I’m sorry” expression. Toddlers will be toddlers.
What was I thinking? To be fair, the Lorax toy is a little creepy.
But - now, every now and then, he fetches his toy and tells me this is the Lorax. It took almost a year, but I’ll take this as a win.
Today, Lorax went to school with the Lorax book. My day was made when his teacher had a heartwarming reaction. I’m glad my little Lorax made someone smile! I just hope he didn’t scare the friends at school!

I love creating, making things from scratch. I’m already thinking about what special gift I can make for my son’s 3rd birthday, knowing all too well that it’s more for me than it is for him!
